Hardware
Transporting storage systems
Storage systems consist of controllers and drive shelves that become very heavy when fully populated. Whether drives are removed for transport is specified by the manufacturer – and the data on them remains your responsibility.
What matters
- Drives
- Many manufacturers recommend removing drives for transport and packing them separately. Your provider decides.
- Weight
- Fully populated shelves are heavy; stacking and lifting equipment are designed for this.
- Labelling
- Removed drives must remain clearly assigned to their slot – your provider organises this.
- Data
- Responsibility for the data lies with the operator; we do not erase or test anything.
Planning questions
We clarify these points before quoting – the earlier they are known, the more precise the plan.
- How many controllers and shelves are there?
- Will drives be removed and packed separately?
- How heavy are the individual units?
- Where is the system going?
- Are there time windows for collection and delivery?
What we need from you
- Units and rough weights
- Drives removed yes/no
- Packing condition
- Time windows
What we do for you
What we organise
- Transport of your IT hardware from collection straight to destination – from one pallet to recurring volumes
- On request collection from several sites, serial number capture and project-based packaging
- Dates coordinated with every collection and destination site – with one contact for you
Good to know
Your service provider removes, packs and pulls drives – we take over the transport-ready systems and deliver them safely.

Questions and answers: Storage systems
Do drives have to be removed from storage systems?
The manufacturer specifies this; many recommend it. Your provider organises removal and labelling.
How heavy are storage shelves?
Fully populated, often very heavy. State rough weights per unit so stacking and lifting equipment fit.
Who is responsible for the data on the storage?
Responsibility for the data stays with the operator. We transport the units handed over.
