Transporting printers and multifunction devices
A desktop printer fits in a carton quickly; a floor-standing multifunction device does not: it is heavy, stands on castors, contains toner and often a built-in hard drive. For transport, consumables must be secured and moving parts fixed.
What matters
- Toner and ink
- Toner and ink containers are removed or secured according to the manufacturer so nothing leaks or creates dust.
- Moving parts
- Paper trays, finishers and scanner carriages are fixed, often with the manufacturer's transport locks.
- Hard drives in MFPs
- Many multifunction devices store documents. Handling these storage media lies with you.
- Weight and castors
- Floor-standing units are heavy; on castors they can be moved but need secure loading.
Planning questions
We clarify these points before quoting – the earlier they are known, the more precise the plan.
- How many devices, which sizes – desktop or floor-standing?
- Have toners been removed or secured?
- Do the devices have hard drives, and how are they handled?
- Is there a lift or dock at the collection point?
- Where are the devices going?
What we need from you
- Number and device sizes
- Condition of consumables
- Handling of hard drives
- Access at collection
What we do for you
What we organise
- Transport of your IT hardware from collection straight to destination – from one pallet to recurring volumes

Questions and answers: Printers and multifunction devices
Do toners have to be removed before transport?
Usually yes, or they are secured according to the manufacturer. That way nothing leaks and there is no dust.
Do multifunction devices have hard drives?
Many do. Handling these storage media lies with you; we do not erase data.
Can heavy floor-standing units be collected without a dock?
We clarify that beforehand based on access and weight; a vehicle with a tail lift may be needed.
