Transporting laptops – individually packed or in volume

Laptops are the most common device group in off-lease returns and rollouts. They are light but sensitive to pressure – and each contains a lithium-ion battery. Both determine how they are packed and loaded.

What matters

Batteries
Lithium-ion batteries in equipment are subject to transport rules, with exemptions for intact devices. Damaged or swollen batteries must be reported beforehand.
Sensitive to pressure
Displays break under load. Laptops are not stacked unprotected and not loaded under heavy devices.
Stating quantities
With returns, the unit count is often inaccurate. Pallets or pallet cages are sufficient for planning.
Accessories
Power supplies and bags often travel loose – packed separately in cartons, less gets lost at the recipient.

Planning questions

We clarify these points before quoting – the earlier they are known, the more precise the plan.

  1. Roughly how many laptops are there, and how are they packed?
  2. Are there devices with damaged or swollen batteries?
  3. Do power supplies and accessories travel along?
  4. Should serial numbers be captured?
  5. Where are the devices going?

Questions and answers: Laptops

May laptops be transported with their batteries?

Yes. Intact lithium-ion batteries in equipment benefit from transport exemptions. Damaged or swollen batteries must be handled separately and reported in advance.

How should laptops be packed for transport?

Ideally in padded cartons or upright in pallet cages with interlayers. Avoid unprotected stacks without interlayers – displays break under pressure.

Do I need to know the exact unit count?

No. Cartons, pallet cages or pallets are enough for planning. On request, the exact number can be captured at collection via serial numbers.
